The star has handed over the entirety of his £25,000 award winnings to the MVT, which operates to save the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

Fender was given the award on October 16 as his third album People Watching was named the best record of the previous year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," said Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the trust in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which benefits independent venues.

Fender also joined in, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous local spots across Britain.

The donation supported locations that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues arising from flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Other venues were granted funding support in modernizing infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that helped performers and fans.

"The notion that money from concerts in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it begins for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his award prize money to worthy causes.

In they earned the prize in 1996 for their release Different Class, vocalist the singer stated that the band would contribute their prize money to the organization War Child.

That year, rapper and singer the artist shared her prize across multiple good causes, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also donated a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they needed updated gear," she explained to outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the youth organization that supported their band, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

And winners that year they gave their award to a MS organization after a acquaintance was diagnosed the illness.

"Winning was sufficient," stated artist Heather Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our victory touched somebody else's life."

Last week, the MVT revealed it had rescued several small stages in the South East, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and the second in that location were bought under the community ownership program, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
